The Two of Spades dominates the image as a symbol of the refusal to recognise the other as part of a single humanity. Two opposing signs evoke conflict, division and the impossibility of finding a synthesis. In the reality of war, the card loses all playful dimension and becomes the emblem of a condition in which life seems entrusted to a game decided by others. The colours of the work recall those of the Palestinian flag, making explicit the reference to the reality of the conflict. In the centre, an empty bowl bears the word WAR: an object intended to contain and nourish that war has deprived of its content, turning hunger and deprivation into a concrete image. AMAL, which in Arabic means hope, finally introduces a possibility opposite to destruction: that of a hope that, despite war, hunger and division, continues to remain alive.
